Our Western Sky self-identify their genre as “twinkle,” and it actually makes a lot of sense. Their music is unearthly, almost far-off, the kind of soundtrack that plays when you’re looking at the stars. Their sound is subdued, almost like it’s under water, composed of melody and counter-melody and soft, wispy vocals. Channeling the spirit of Godspeed! You Black Emperor, Band of Horses, and other bands you listened to in high school, Our Western Sky perform with a strange exactness that makes everything sound like a dream. For a musical style that was on the fringe of being outdated, their dedication and musical ability breathe in new life. It’s almost like a revival.
