The Life of Pi was, in my opinion, an adept adaptation. Ang Lee surprised me by honestly portraying the novel in a fair way. One of the strengths of the film was color, something that Lee seemed to capture almost perfectly. It’s a visually stunning picture, which it had to be, in order to compete with the imagery invoked by the novels author, Yann Martel.
It’s a movie that is made to be seen in a theater, and I think the experience would suffer on a smaller screen. Incidentally, the same could be said if you had seen the movie while literally floating in a lifeboat. That’s what these lucky fans were able to do during a special screening in Paris. All things considered, I’m sad I missed it (but let’s be honest, that’s mostly because I’ve never been to Paris).
